What is a THC vape pen?

A THC vape pen is a battery-powered device that heats cannabis oil or distillate into inhalable vapour. The pen has two parts: the battery (the body) and the cartridge or chamber (holding the oil). When you inhale or press the button, the battery heats the oil to vaporizing temperature without burning anything.

Pens are the middle ground between smoking and edibles: faster onset than edibles (1-3 minutes), smoother on the lungs than smoke, and more discreet than both.

510-thread compatibility: what fits what

Most THC cartridges in Canada use 510-threading, the industry-standard screw fitting. A 510-thread battery works with essentially any 510-thread cartridge regardless of brand.

Things to check before buying:

• Thread type: 510 is the default; magnetic adapters exist for pod systems
• Voltage range: lower voltage (3.3-3.7V) preserves flavour; higher (3.8-4.2V) produces bigger clouds but can burn distillate
• Battery capacity: measured in mAh; 350-650mAh covers a weekend of moderate use
• Preheat function: warms thick distillate before your first draw (worth having)

How to use a vape pen

1. Charge it fully before first use (usually 1-2 hours)

2. Screw on the cartridge finger-tight; overtightening strips the thread

3. If there's a button: click 5 times fast to turn on (standard for most pens)

4. Draw slowly, 2-3 second puffs. Vaping is about sipping, not ripping

5. Start with one or two puffs and wait 10-15 minutes. Vape THC hits faster than edibles but slower than smoking

6. Turn it off (5 clicks) when done to save battery

Storage: keep pens upright at room temperature. Extreme heat degrades the oil; cold thickens it. Don't leave a pen in a hot car.

Are THC vape pens legal in Canada?
