Sour Diesel's origin is cannabis folklore at its finest - disputed, undocumented, and universally respected. The genetics anchor is Chemdawg 91, itself from seeds bought at a 1991 Grateful Dead show in Deer Creek, Indiana. From there, two accounts compete: the detailed AJ version says a DNL plant hermaphrodited in a Chemdawg 91 grow room and accidentally seeded the whole crop (Sour Diesel was discovered, not designed); the Top Dawg Seeds version runs through an Original Diesel x DNL step with Massachusetts Super Skunk in the family tree. Either way, East Coast Sour Diesel (ECSD) was stabilized in Long Island and Staten Island circles by the mid-90s, became a New York icon amplified by the hip-hop scene, and put the East Coast on the genetic map. Descendants include Sour OG, Sour Tangie and Headband.
